Doctoral Studies

The department provides education in the doctoral study programme Physical Engineering, area Structure and Properties of Materials.

In the area of the structure and properties of materials, the studies focus on the interdisciplinary intersection of applied mechanics and materials science, grounded in solid-state physics, elastomechanics, plasticity theory and fracture mechanics. Within a narrower specialization they then address the study of failure processes in solids, the study of the structure and mechanical properties of materials, the service life and reliability of bodies and mechanical systems, the mathematical modelling of crack propagation and of dynamic phenomena in bodies, and biomechanics.
