Science and Research

The department's research, both in basic research and in collaboration with industry, is based on a comprehensive approach to the study of the failure of bodies and structures. It covers physical-metallurgical aspects, applications of fracture mechanics, mathematical modelling of stress and strain fields, the study of failure processes at the microscale, and a probabilistic approach to the reliability of systems.
